Can you tell me about the aerial photography and how I can acquire it?

The 6 inch and 1 foot aerial photography is too large to download from our site. In order to obtain this data, you must supply an external hard drive using USB2 or Firewire connection to the City of Tyler GIS department. Data is available in georeferenced TIFF and/or Mr. Sid format. You will need to have at least a 200 Gigabyte hard drive to obtain both the 6 inch and 1 foot aerials in TIFF format. If you can utilize the SID format, these images take up only 15 Gigabytes and can be fit on 4 DVDs. The cost for all aerials loaded onto an external hard drive is $182.50 and the SID files can be obtained on 4 DVDs for a cost of  $168.00. The 6 inch photography covers the City of Tyler and the "old" 3.5 mile ETJ area. The 1 foot photography covers the entire county.

Can I acquire the contours in DXF or DWG format?

Yes you can; however, we do not support Autocad format and do not have technical expertise in Autocad Map. Since the "Z" elevation is an attribute of the ESRI file format, that information is lost when it is converted out to a dxf file. It is recommended that you obtain contours in ESRI based shapefile format and convert them yourself into Autocad format - preserving the z-elevation attribute.
