Redesigned Beta Website Unveiled
A redesigned web map site covering land records in Smith County is now available. This new map application is a continuation of the collaborative effort between the City of Tyler, Smith County 911 Communications District and Smith County Appraisal District.

During the recently completed 80th session of the Texas Legislature, a bill was passed that eliminates the appraisal of property by an appraisal district if that property is located in another county. HB 1010 provides that an appraisal district's boundaries are the same as the county's boundaries. This law takes affect with the 2008 appraisal year. The effect of this law is that approximately 7,000 accounts that used to be appraised by SCAD will now be appraised by our neighboring counties. SCAD's web site, which we use to present information on accounts that we appraise, will consequently cease carrying information on the "out-of-county" accounts, and the accounts will disappear from our web site maps. Property owners seeking current information on the out-of-county properties should begin using the web site or customer service offices of the appraisal district in which the property is located. SCAD's web home page has a tab that contains Links to other appraisal district's web sites.
